The Open 2022, an atypical 150th anniversary on the Old Course

The Open 2022 will be an atypical and unique event. We are generally used to seeing the best golf event in the world in years ending in zero or five, coinciding with the celebration on the Old Course at St Andrews. Before COVID postponed it by a whole year, the Royal & Ancient decided that the 150th Anniversary would be played in 2021 as this long-awaited celebration fell in that year, breaking the rule for the first time in a long time. The rest is history. The Open at Royal St. Georges was ‘pushed’ to 2021 and with it, the 150th Anniversary to 2022.

We are in the era of the different, of teleworking, where the way we play golf has changed, the way we live and all this has affected in some way the golf events as it is not only complicated to gather thousands of people in the same place enjoying their idols, but the mere fact of bringing together the organisation, media, players and caddies is already an arduous task that brings the institutions that govern the golf industry upside down.

The best golf event of the century

From the roof to the foundations, the Royal & Ancient is working its own magic to pull off a complicated event after the suspension of 2020 full of restrictions, overshadowing even the previous event at Royal St. Georges, at least as far as importance is concerned, as the passage of the ‘150th Anniversary Hurricane’ has swept through, leaving the box office at zero for what promises to be the event of the century.

The-Open-St-Andrews-Old-Course-LowgolfThe Open 2022 sounds like a breath of fresh air, a personal award for having gone so long without travelling, it smells like the event of the century, it smells like “I can’t miss it for anything in the world, especially after where we come from”.

For months now there has been no more accommodation in St Andrews, there are no more green fees on the courses in the Fife region and even the organisers of The Open 2022 are considering designing new areas and VIP pavilions, as those that existed until now have been sold in barely a week since they were put on the market, through the Authorised Providers, of which we are the only Spanish company.

Why will the 150th Anniversary be so special?

The Open 2022 will be special for many reasons, but if we had to choose one of them, it would undoubtedly be that it is the 150th Anniversary of what for us is the best event in the world, and this means a lot to the R&A directors who want it to be remembered, they want it to be memorable and unforgettable and have put all their eggs in the basket so that there is a before and after of the British Open, of their Open, of The Open 2022.

All this will be in St. Andrews, the town that saw the birth of the oldest course in the world. St. Andrews is also a place with an unusual golfing atmosphere where everything around the Old Course smells of golf. Absolutely everything there has a special charm, it is full of university students during the winter and golfers during the summer. All the small businesses, travel agencies and hotels breathe golf on all four sides. During The Open 2022, the atmosphere will be really exciting where it will be quite normal to see the players eating and having a pint after the round.

Dumbarnie Links 04Enhancing the experience further

To the experience of living the best The Open 150th Anniversary we add the privilege of playing 3 of the best courses in Scotland, at a time when there are no green fees available for months for any day of the week.

Carnoustie Championship is a golf icon, for Miguel Angel Jimenez is the best course in the world. Home of The Open 2018 where Francesco Molinari won. Dumbarnie Links, a newly opened golf course is causing a sensation for its imposing design. Compared to Kingsbarns, it is a noble course with wonderful views. Kittocks Course, one of the two Fairmont Resort courses. A true marvel for its design and its unique views of the Bay of St. Andrews.
